Late in 2004 Mavis Eastwood (Miss January) came to see me about a project she was undertaking. Mavis had lost her daughter Gail to Leukemia and wanted to create a legacy for her. Mavis had been inspired by the movie Calendar Girls and wanted to create a similar project to raise money for the Southlake Regional Cancer hospital in Newmarket, Ontario. Mavis approached me as I had regularly photographed Gail and her three children. In fact, I had photographed Gail with her children just a few weeks prior to her passing in 2002. I jumped at the opportunity and we began shooting in January of 2005. The calendar was launched in June of 2005 for sale up to the beginning of 2006. Mavis' stated goal was to be lucky and raise $100 000. The calendar raised over $282 000, all of which was donated to Southlake.
